4 Similarities Between Art and Home Decor - The Creative Soul Collection

Home decor and creating art share some similarities, as they both involve the creative process and require the use of design elements such as color, texture, form, and composition. Each of these 4 areas are important to the design process. Jackson Pollack is quite famous for his use of color and texture. Adding pops of color and varying texture make art and your home come alive.

The 4 Elements of design

Like creating art, interior design involves using these elements to create a visually appealing and functional space that meets the needs and preferences of the client. Both interior designers and artists must also consider the mood and atmosphere they wish to create, as well as the message or feeling they want to convey through their work. Finding balance with these 4 elements can sometimes be a challenge. The picture below not only conveys texture and form, but illustrates the need for balance. When we find balance in our home decor and art, it can five us a wonderful feeling of peace and joy.

The early stages of concept creation

Additionally, both home decor and creating art involve a process of brainstorming, sketching, experimenting, and refining the final product. Interior designers often create mood boards or sketches to convey their vision to clients, while artists may work through multiple drafts or studies before creating a final piece. This can be a long process that is not only fun, but rewarding. Georgia O’Keefe was famous for her paintings featuring flowers, but even she did many sketches of her work.

Skill and Vision

Overall, both home decor and creating art require a combination of technical skill and creative vision, and both can be incredibly rewarding forms of self-expression. I will be diving deeper into these concepts in the future. I plan to do an art history series as well, so if you’d like to learn more about the above mentioned artists and many more, make sure to sign up below to get all my latest blogs.

When we consider these three areas of design elements, concept creation and skill and vision, we are on our way to to creating something worthwhile and interesting.
